Rockpool beating Without Question (hidden) in the Grade 3 Politician Stakes over 1800m. The pair are two of five entries in the Cape Derby who run in the colours of Nick Jonsson. (Wayne Marks).

Charles Dickens is not going to have it his own way in the Grade 1 Cape Derby as not only has Justin Snaith entered the smart Grade 3 Politician Stakes winner Rockpool, but also seven other horses.

The only out of province entry is the Michael Roberts-trained See It Again, who is one of five horses in the field who run in the colours of big Durban-based owner Nick Jonsson.

The Snaith-trained quartet Rockpool, Without Question, Mucho Dinero and Triple Time also run in Jonsson’s familiar cyclamen (pink), green and white colours.

Rockpool has an eyecatchingly huge stride, but the rangy Without Question was just as eyecatching in the Politician Stakes in which he finished a half-a-length second to Rockpool.

The Brett Crawford-trained hard-knocker At My Command is another notable entry. He was second to Charles Dickens in the Grade 3 Cape Classic and Grade 2 Punters’ Cup and a 4,35 length third to him in the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas. In his last start he was a 2,75 length third in the Politician, but he gave both Rockpool and Without Question 6kg, so on paper has their measure.
