CELTIC Sea (1-1 favourite) scored a dominant win under Gavin Lerena in the Grade 2 Sceptre Stakes at Kenilworth on Friday.

The opening day of the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate festival is Ladies Day, and as expected Grade 1 winners Celtic Sea and Clouds Unfold dominated the finish of this 1200m event.

There was little early pace, and after 400m the eventual winner came through to take it up, with Cousin Liz and Icon Princess also in attendance.

Clouds Unfold briefly looked threatening down the inside, but Sean Tarry’s champion quickly found more and surged clear to win by an unextended two and a half in a decent time.

“This filly just gets better and better – what a privilege” said Tarry after her latest impressive display.

The supporting feature was the Listed Ardmore Jamaica Handicap over 2000m.

Sleeping Single looked a certain winner when she took it up 200m out, but was snared in the dying strides by Principessa (16-1), the least fancied of Brett Crawford’s four runners.   -TAB News.
