ARTIST and racing enthusiast Darren Birdie tweeted this drawing of Big Orange, in celebration of the five-year-old gelding’s win in Wednesday’s Gr2 Princess Of Wales’s Arqana Racing Stakes over 2400m at Newmarket. “He juiced them again!” enthused Birdie.

Big Orange, a son of Drakenstein Stud’s resident stallion Duke Of Marmalade, won a second successive renewal of the race, the first time this was achieved since 2003. He made all to see off The Grey Gatsby under James McDonald.

Sent off at 8-1 in an open race, Big Orange was made to work to reach the front but McDonald was able to steady him approaching the dip and he kept on strongly to stave off the Jamie Spencer-ridden 3-1 favourite.

This was the popular Big Orange’s sixth win from 16 starts for trainer Michael Bell.
