JAYRAJ Kalichuran, the chief bookmaker at Betting World, expects betting activity on Saturday’s Gr1 Queen’s Plate and Gr1 Maine Chance Farms Paddock Stakes to warm up from today and going into the weekend.

Kalichuran said that most of the big punters haven’t yet placed their bets, but there have been several multiples taken with the 8-10 favourite, Legal Eagle. “Most of our smaller punters are taking their ante-post multiples into Legal Eagle, he has been very popular in this regard. The sentiment is that he is better suited to a mile than Marinaresco and also has a better draw. Interestingly we’ve seeing that Sean Tarry’s French Navy is attracting place bets from the shrewd punters.”

While the Queen’s Plate market has been stable, there have been some movements on the ante-post boards for the Paddock Stakes and Kalichuran reported: “Safe Harbour has attracted support, she has come in from 13-2 to 11-2, but there is much respect for Bela Bela, who remains firm at even money.”

Top tipster Darryl Maree, whose “Bust Box” on the Betting World Website is finding winner after winner, gave his early views of the Saturday features. He said: “I won’t be looking for upsets, both races look pretty clear-cut to me.

“Legal Eagle is a top-class miler, to my mind at his best over this trip. He would have come on very nicely from the Green Point Stakes and I think he will beat Marinaresco by a greater margin than last time, though it may be a slightly different story in the Met.

“In the Paddock Stakes, I don’t see real dangers for the quality filly Bela Bela.  I can’t have the three year-olds. Bela Bela needed her last run, there was more merit in that win than people gave her credit for as they cantered and sprinted and she still won a good race after her lay-off. She will be hard to beat.”

Betting Word account holders receive Darryl Maree’s daily selections and perms when the log in to www.bettingworld.co.za.  Her is selective as always and his last two best bets, Last Chirp (33-10) and Mombela (2-1), both won. For more information, or to open an account, dial 087.741.2700.
