AURELIA Cotta hasn’t won since April 2017, when she posted her second career win over 1400m, but she’s been campaigning fairly in good company since and could get back to winning ways in an Assessment Plate at the Vaal on Monday afternoon.

Aurelia Cotta, who beat her male contemporary Like A Panther in the said 2017 success, has other formidable names like Folk Dance, Takingthepeace, Via Seattle, Majestic Mambo, Undercover Agent and Secret Potion prominent in her form chart as runners to have beaten her.

She’s never been far off, even against those, and in Monday’s contest we put it to trainer Sean Tarry that, as highest-rated, well-weighted filly in the race, she looks like ‘a penalty kick’!

“I wouldn’t say that, Aurelia Cotta is not a ‘penalty kick’, but she is fit and in good health and her recent form looks good enough,” replied Tarry.

To know that she is fit and well, coupled with the fact that she acts on soft, is perhaps all we need to recommend Aurelia Cotta as a banker in small perms, and her current 28-10 also look tempting as a nose-on strike.

There are a host of scratchings from the meeting, below is a detailed card changes sheet and track condition update.
