It’s Ladies Day at the Aintree Festival, regarded as the absolute highlight of the Grand National Weekend, and 55,000 people are expected, most of them female and dressed in cute, colourful frocks. Can’t we just import, like, 10,000 of them for Champions Day?

A bright afternoon is expected (that’s what they call 10 degrees in Liverpool) with sunny intervals breaking through the cloud particularly during the afternoon. It should remain dry, except for the areas at the where booze will be consumed.

Prices range from around the equivalent of R16 for a splash of cordial, to R70 for a vodka and R1,300 for a bottle of champagne, with glasses of wine costing R75.
