CHAMPION Trainer Sean Tarry has scratched French Navy, Safe Harbour, Silver God and Throng from the 2018 Durban July.
That still leaves him with seven hopefuls for this year’s event including Summer Cup winner Liege and the smart Horse Chestnut gelding Tilbury Fort (photo), who has won two excellent races recently and is starting to fulfill his potential.
Tilbury Fort’s merit rating is back to 100 following a drop to 88. He got into last year’s Durban July off this rating but will have to get lucky this year which will be unfortunate because he is starting to look like a proper contender.
Tarry told Turf Talk: “I am not going to bust my head trying to get horses into the July this year. What will happen, will happen and I will accept it. I’m not going to run horses in certain races for the sake of qualification. Whoever gets in at final
acceptances, gets in.”
