TABLE Bay (AUS), a A$120,000 2015 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale purchase for Mayfair Speculators, drew clear to win Saturday’s Gr3 Cape Classic over 1400m by four lengths under jockey Anton Marcus.

The three-year-old colt by Redoute’s Choice took command in the straight and when he lengthened his stride the race was over as a contest.

“I am shocked at the way he won. He showed us how good he is today. This was an extremely impressive performance,” said Mayfair’s Racing Manager Derek Brugman, who added that he hoped he and trainer Joey Ramsden can bring back a champion from Melbourne every year.

Ramsden said that Table Bay was a ‘lovely laid back horse’ to train. “My thanks to Drakenstein for the sponsorship and also to Markus (Jooste) for putting up the investment and to Derek for always waking me up. It is lovely to be able to go out and buy these smashing horses,” he said modestly.

Ramsden thanked his team, saying: “We fly all over the world finding top horses to train and my team does plenty of the hard work back home, well done to them!”
