WHERE will it end? Winx, the wonder horse dubbed ‘Mare of the world’ by the Australian racing press, has created history again by becoming the first horse to win three consecutive Gr1 George Main Stakes, extending her winning streak to 27.

In front of more than 13,000 racegoers at Royal Randwick, the champion mare showed incredible acceleration in the final 150m to win by three lengths.

Winx dropped out to last in the early part of this contest, but her customary turn of foot kicked in again just before the bend as she started to reel them in.

Le Romain galloped strongly in front with 400m to run, and jockey Hugh Bowman gave Winx a light left-handed reminder, three lengths off the pace. She responded like saying, ‘sorry, I was just waiting a while’, and stormed up to claim the lead within strides.

“Happy birthday, long live the Queen,” crooned the race caller.

“I thought I pinched it but that was stupid on me wasn’t it,” quipped Le Romain’s jockey James Macdonald after the race.

The seven-year-old bay took her career earnings to almost $20 million win and set more stunning records.

It was her eighth consecutive Group 1 race win — joining Black Caviar.

It was her 20th total Group 1 win — the first horse to ever reach the milestone.

Trainer Chris Waller said: “She’s just very, very special.
