THE handicappers have not raised Kangaroo Jack’s merit rating from 113 after his super win in Saturday’s Gr2 Joburg Spring Challenge, but that is unlikely to change trainer Gary Alexander’s plans for the son of Querari going forward.
Handicapper Matthew Lips said on Monday: “With the second and the third horse as line horses, Kangaroo Jack ran to a 111. He was weighted to win, we are keeping his rating at 113.”
Dean Alexander, speaking for the Alexander stable, commented: “Everything is a bit up in the air now. Gary and Andrew Fortune will discuss a strategy tomorrow, but Kangaroo Jack is likely to be prepared with a view to the 2017 Gr 1 Computaform Sprint and perhaps the Gr1 Horse Chestnut 1600 next year.
“We won’t be taking him to Cape Town. We’ll have to look for weight-for-age races and pinnacle plates now, there is a pinnacle sprint at Turffontein in November. We may go for that just to keep him ticking over.”
