SA-bred ace runner Jaboobi, against expectations, saw out the full 1800m of Saturday’s Jebel Hatta, a keenly contested Gr1 worth US$300,000 at Meydan in Dubai won by Godolphin’s Blairhouse. He will now be strongly considered for the Gr1 US$5-million Dubai Turf over the same trip on Dubai World Cup night.
Trainer Mike de Kock commented: “Janoobi didn’t have things his own way but ran a great race and jockey Jim Crowley reported he stayed every inch.
“We’ve been thinking of the Gr1 Champions Mile in Hong Kong and the Gr1 Kranji Mile in Singapore as next possible targets because Janoobi will be ideally course and distance suited, but we will be discussing this with Sheikh Hamdan. He enjoys having a strong contingent of runners on Dubai World Cup night and on his Jebel Hatta showing Janoobi will have a chance of sharing in the prize money. We will please our patron.”
De Kock said that Al Sahem, a strong-finishing fifth in Saturday’s Gr3 Dubai City Of Gold, will be pointed at the Gr2 Dubai Gold Cup over 3200m, one of the stayers’ features on DWC night.
