BUFFALO Bill Cody (IRE) and Soqrat will be sent to Durban for the Gr1 Premiers Champion Stakes on 27 July. This follows Buffalo Bill Cody’s hugely impressive win over the accomplished Soqrat in a Pinnacle Stakes over 1600m at Turffontein on Sunday.
Gavin Lerena had Buffalo Bill racing five lengths off the call coming into the bend, Cirillo behind him, and he shot to the front with consummate ease when given some rein, winning by 3.25-lengths, and not extended.
The four-year-old son of Redoute’s Choice won after a rest of seven months, making his win even more impressive.
With Mathew de Kock doing saddling duties at the city track, Mike de Kock and owner Mary Slack watched the race from Durban and popped a bottle of champagne in celebration, both delighted.
De Kock commented: “I’ve always considered Buffalo Bill Cody to be a little better than Hawwaam. He is very good and this win over Cirillo proves it. We’ll be taking him down to Durban at the end of the month for the Champion Stakes. Hawwaam and Barahin will be rested.”
