IT is not official at this time, but word from the 37th Asian Racing Conference in Seoul, South Korea, is that South Africa, and specifically Cape Town, will host the 38th renewal of the grand bi-ennial conference in 2020.

South Africa had a number of representatives at the conference and we managed to track down Phumelela’s Clyde Basel, who commented: “It was said in the closing ceremony in Seoul today. They said, ‘We’ll see you in Cape Town in 2020.’  A media release about the issue is said to be on the way. That is all I can confirm at present.”

The most important event of its kind in the racing world and a great boost for tourism and racing in South Africa, the ARC provides a marketplace of ideas, and innovations that shape racing’s future. It is a forum for industry leaders from around the world to meet, to identify emerging issues, and to develop new strategies.

  1. Akin to a World Cup in sport! This will be tremendous for tourism, hopefully by 2020 the water problems in CT are under control.
